A story of two flowers

Two seeds were sown
In the fertilized soil.
Expected to be grown
Into beautiful flowers.

They grew together
till they were the same height.
Maybe because they bathed in the same sunlight
and showered in the same water.

They grew and grew together
till they no longer could be distinguished from the weeds who grew along.
Maybe because no one ever told them who they were
and so they thought they were the same.

They grew and grew and grew together
till they thought they needed each other to survive
Maybe because they never left each other’s side
and so they thought they belonged there with the other.

They grew and grew and grew and grew together
till one day, one of them was ripped off the ground
Maybe because it needed to be placed elsewhere
and it belonged somewhere else.

Then they grew but not together
till one grew taller while other remained the same
Maybe because they now bathed in different sunlight
and showered in different water.

Then they grew and grew but not together
till they watched each other from the other side of the field.
Maybe because they still thought they were the same
and so day after day they missed one another.

Then they grew and grew and grew but not together
till that spring morning when it all became crystal clear.
Maybe because then they bloomed into beautiful flowers
and so they realized they were never the same to begin with.

That’s when they realized,
though the journey was the same, their destiny was not.
Though they grew up together, they did not… and
never will they ever belong together.

Were they foolish enough to think they were the same?
Or were they foolish enough to not embrace the differences?

That was a thought to be pondered about sometime in future.
Not now. Not here.
Now, just the flashback of their journey was tiring enough
to close their eyes and lose themselves in the cold nights.
